as some of you more observant readers may have picked up on, a blog-writing-overachiever i am not. i’m a back row blogger. yep, that’s me. i like to think of my method as an extra challenging approach to blogging. i mean writing about something right after it happens is so, so simple-minded. but writing about something over a YEAR after it happens?? well now, that’s just flat out brain olympics right there. seriously. who’s the overachiever now?!
boom. that just happened.
so to keep things extra mystical and magical…this is a little REWIND blog about our CMA fest experience from 2014. not to be confused with the recent CMA fest that just happened a few weeks ago. (you better pour a drink for this blog…it’s all downhill from here).
it’s such a harddddd job.
like seriously…so. VERY, very difficult.
after our backstage shenanigans, it was time to do what we came to do. join storme warren on stage in front of 65,000 people. nevermind the fact that i had been stung by 2, yes TWO, yellow jackets in BOTH, yes BOTH of my calves before we ever left texas. and my legs were therefore so swollen i couldn’t wear boots (you really can’t make this up….TWO yellowjacket STINGS. one in each calf. days before the CMA fest. and yes, clearly i’m allergic). nevermind the fact that i had a huge pimple on my chin. nevermind the fact that we both thought we were going to throw up. literally. like barf right there backstage all over the band perry. the show must go on. fat calves or no fat calves. pimple or no pimple.
first, with cute boys pre-show…
and then…we were kidnapped by blake shelton while backstage. we put up quite a struggle (as is quite obvious by this picture)…but in the end, we let him have his way with us.
and later, just us to announce miranda lambert….
and yes, it was later confirmed that amie’s vintage beaded sparkle shirt could be seen from space.
in addition to our big night with 2 big calves at LP field…(watch here…)
we pretty much had an awesome time in nashville.
we flipped out when we saw our own BENCH at CMA fest…
soooo we had to take moms picture…
and our dad’s…
and tracy & archie’s…
and all the girls…
and our own…
annddddd later with jep and jessica robertson…
andddd the farm kings had a bench too. so we took a picture.
yes, we went a little crazy with the park benches.
and always a FAVORITE stop of ours is the legendary. the epic. the awesome COUNTRY MUSIC HALL of FAME.
where our MAMA TRIED tank is on display…thanks to miranda lambert’s 2015 KEROSENE video.
and i’m throwing this picture in because it’s just so awesome.
she was in nashville for 2 nights, y’all. TWO NIGHTS. and she took over 100 pounds of luggage. i ain’t kiddin’.
thanks for the good times, nashville….you’re one of our fave cities in america!
P.S.S. biggo special thanks to WILD BLEU for my totally amazingly awesome belt i wore at LP field!
P.S.S.S. and lastly….big photo cred and video cred shout out to matt blair!!

there comes a time in every girls life when she just has to be a bad ass. and we here at junk gypsy decided that time was now.
a time when she needs to throw on a padded bra & a blonde wig…
a time when she must channel miranda lambert.
in case you’re confused…this is the REAL miranda…
and of utmost important…a completely bad-to-the-bone guns ‘n wings tattoo on her forearm.
(we won’t mention the fact that it also put us and her in the doghouse with her daddy until the end of time)
and yes…we let blake play along too…
although he better watch out…you know what they say about a woman scorned…
and lest i forget, the most important part of this costume…attitude.
the level of bad assery must be epic.
and here’s the original KEROSEnE video…one of the top 10 videos of the decade!!
even if you’ve seen it, watch it again…it’ll make ya wanna be a bad ass too…and yes, she’s rockin our merle haggard-inspired MAMA triED tanK …which had it’s own moment in the spotlight at the country music hall of fame …
all thanks to KEROSENE…and a woman scorned.

a trophy buck, hunting, guns, and randy travis’s song, forever & ever amen (because according to CrAZY LEgS, NOTHING says ‘i love you’ like crossed pistols and a dead deer :))….with baroque details, ornate scrolls, and prairie-colored roses.
the design was printed on canvas and sewn to fit the chairs (the chairs actually ended up about an inch bigger than our initial measurements, but we work on the fly so with a little stretching, we made it work:)). we tied floppy hot pink satin sashes on each chair for a pop of hollywood honkytonk and they were perfect.
a mish-mash of eclectic seating…
made complete with 4 matching HoT pinK porch swings with pillows made of the same slip design…
a RoCKSTAR elvis SiLVER velvet tufted sofa, 2 drops of jupiter metallic silver chairs, and fleamarket ottomans…
old style granny rocking chairs & retro metal HoT PinK chairs….
the retro metal chairs sat in front of the AiRSTREAM that served as the ViP trailer court…we placed the rocking chairs on the porch of the barn (for a great view overlooking the creek).
and of course…the chairs at the head table…
wooden gothic chairs slipped with crystal-embellished covers
but possibly, the best seat in the house…was right here…
with rugs, mushy pillows, and a crystal chandelier…
because of course, WHO doesn’t need a tipi at their wedding? :)

because we were a little caught up with trying to create the most
rockstar perfect wedding reception we could imagine, we kinda neglected other little details.
like uh, what WE were going to wear to the big event…
we raided each other’s closets, we excavated our vintage stash…soul sistas from here to there sent us boxes of rockin’ vintage threads & jewels to try on (BIG ThankS to DouBLE D RANCHWEAR, MaRTi AgASSi, paris montana, ToNY LAmA, our sista in the bayou -GaBRiELLE, & fellow junker – WiNNIE!!)
our new friend, THE FARMER’s TROPHY WiFE was worried we might show up in our work clothes so she posted this.
and true to form, we DID NOT have our outfits nailed down until the VERY LAST MINUTE. using the most absolutely important GyPSY road necessity, a pair of scissors.
mom modified my dress in the hotel room the DAY. of. the. WEDDING.
AND amie pulled out the sewing machine to gypsy-fy her dress literally HOURS. before. the. nuptials.
here we are…right before we raced off to the chapel…
let’s start with janie…
she rocked a totally jimi hendrix-style PUrPLE satin ruffle blouse paired with a studded & beaded vest and prairie-style santa fe skirt…all TaSHA POLiZZI.
(we got ready last-minute in the airstream that served as the VIP trailer court during the reception…hairspray, doublesided dress tape, and jewelry was everywhere!)
amie found this way cute ruched HOT PINK dress and added one of our LACE bolero tops that she modified (literally on the front porch of our hotel) by adding ribbons down the length of each arm corset-style.
she added tons o’ JG turquoise jewelry (turquoise agate tassel, turquoise revival pendant, and a few vintage pieces)…and OLD GriNGO boots…and with her crazzzzzzzy mess o’ bouffant haiR, her outfit was complete.
and then there’s me…
i’m extremely proud of the amazingly beautiful necklace i was soooooo lucky to wear! seriously. our dear friend, marti agassi, made this necklace and my earrings. her work is as beautiful as her heart! marti, her sweet daughter-carter, BFF-cindy, and cindy’s precious daughter-annie, come from across the globe to antiques week EVERY show…they each have a beautiful spirit that is infectious… XOXOX, y’all!
and yes, her last name is AGASSI…as in the GALACTICALLY-crazy-awesome tennis great, ANDRE AGASSI. (marti is andre’s sis-in-law.) a significant portion of EVERY piece of jewelry sold is donated to ANdRE’s incredible education foundation, which provides education opportunities to underserved children. (100% graduate and get scholarships to college!)
mom cut the bottom 6 inches off my dress in the hotel…with a little doublestick tape on the top, it was as good as GUCCI!
my TONY LAMA kicks danced manyyyy a mile that night! these babies are the bees knees! hand stitched, hand tooled, & hand painted…completely made in the USA. AND available for pre-order HERE!
my belt, a vintage….circa 1985 – compliments of t-smitty (yep, my husband’s childhood belt)…complete with ‘TODD’ tooled on the back and his initials on the front (all together now…awwwww). amie had the LuCK & LOVE buckle made for my son, cash baker years ago; the TRUE STRENGTH ring and the BiG ChiEF cuff are 2 of my all time faves and the amazing sacred saint ChriSTOPhER bracelet was ‘new’ made from vintage pieces (it’s a one-of-a-kind…we’ll be carrying them in our future store).
gussied up in our ‘country casual’ finest…we hit the trail headed for the chapel…and then back to the barn for the reception. we had a true night to remember…practically danced the soles off our boots and went to bed that night with smiles as big as TeXAS spread across our faces.
and the next morning, still soaking in the magic from the night before and immensely proud of our contribution to the epic evening, we did what we do best…we pulled on our work gloves and got back to work…
methodically dismantling piece-by-piece the greatest masterpiece we’ve ever created.
and we rode off into the sunset…happily ever after.
