texas, our texas.

back in may of this year, heavy rains came down on our great state of texas.

and they came.

and they came.

lives were lost. homes were destroyed. and the rains continued.

and, in true American form, everyone wanted to help in their own way. WE wanted to help. so we did what we do best. we created a benefit shirt for TEXAS, our TEXAS.

a shirt that sold out in a matter of minutes because all of y’all wanted to help too. and in the end, we were able to donate over $40,000 to Hays County UNITED WAY benefiting TEXAS FLOOD RELIEF. here we are presenting the check to michelle of United Way…

she told us that she woke up that morning to 4 helicopters doing air rescue just outside her window.

and amie shared with her how over 2200 shirts were sold across the nation. some people buying them by the dozen.

it was truly amazing.

Texas is a state of mind, but i think it is more than that, it is a mystique closely approximating a religion. and this is true to the extent that people either passionately love texas or passionately hate it and, as in other religions, few people dare to inspect if for fear of losing their bearings in mystery or paradox. but i think there will be little quarrel with my feeling that texas is one thing. for all its enormous range of space, climate, and physical appearance, and for all the internal squabbles, contentions, and strivings, texas has a tight cohesiveness perhaps stronger than any other section of america. rich, poor, panhandle, gulf, city, country, texas is the obsession, the proper study, and the passionate possession of all texans.                                                                              texas is a nation in every sense of the word.”

in the midst of flood and tornadoes and extreme tragedy, texas came together. americans came together. all to help those in need. those that had lost everything.

we are so proud to be the largest corporate donor to hays county UNITED WAY for texas flood relief….let me say that one more time… THE LARGEST CORPORATE DONOR! we are so dang proud!

we even made the front page of the fayette county record!!

we thank all of y’all from the bottom of our hearts for buying the tees, for spreading the word, for tweeting and instagramming … for calling your family, your friends, your in-laws and out-laws. we thank you for CARING. and for being part of something really, really GOOD. and for helping texas, our texas!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call the Spirit Of Texas.

This is so beautiful, that you all did this for Texas, our Texas. I love y’all. The John Steinbeck quote is so true and also so beautifully said that it brought tears to my eyes. We recently had out of state visitors who, to put it mildly, did Not get the Texas thing. Its soul, spirit and mystique were utterly lost on them. You know how it is, either you get it or you don’t. I feel bad for those who don’t have in their veins; in their hearts. You girls and your whole family and really everything about JG have it in your hearts in a big way. God bless you girls and God bless Texas. Thank you.
