yall.

August 27, 2013

you’ve got to stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything. and for that reason, i’m standing up for the word y’all.

forget political platforms….health plans, taxes, or social security. MY platform is to save america from the use of any term referring to the plural form of “you” other than “y’all”.

y’all.

it’s like biscuits with butter. tea with ice. and coke with peanuts. it just makes sense. it’s like comfort food for the southern vernacular.

and i’m pretty sure my overton high school english teachers (god bless their hearts. actually, god bless all my teachers hearts), mrs. brand and mr. gonzalez,  both used the term y’all. they were both quite sticklers when it came to the english language so therefore, it MUST be grammatically correct. and even if it’s not, i declare that it should be.

you gotta fight. for your right. to speak twang! and i’m starting with this…

and this…

loud and proud, y’all. no y’all left behind. keep y’all in the classrooms. just say y’all. y’all. or yall. with or without the apostrophe. either way, it just feels right.

that’s all i have to say about that.

Oh, I must have! funny story: so I’m from Puerto Rico (born and raised there) and went to college in North Carolina and if there is one word that has become part of my vocabulary is y’all to the consternation of many. After 20 years in NC I consider myself an honorary Carolina girl and use the word to my heart’s content. And I have to agree with Beth above: pure awesomeness!

Born & raised in Texas but we live in Hawaii now (my husband is Army). My liberal use of “y’all” has gotten me recognized as a fellow Texan more times than I can count.

I ADORE this shirt & will DEFINITELY be purchasing one. 🙂

I am a true Georgia girl. My mom was a Yankee (bless her heart) but she always told me she loved living in the South. It’s God’s country! And y’all is one of my favorite words! Thank y’all for the right to stand up for our southern heritage!

I’m from Mo, Show me, lol, and I didn’t know any other word for you guys or you, until I was 6 and my cousins from a city in Il heard me and started makin’ fun of me. Had to ask my Mom why they were teasing me. Another common term her is youns’, lol! I learned “proper English after that, but still use y’all without hesitation!
